Stonewards Pets: What They Do and How to Find Them
What is confirmed
Two of the most-searched Stonewards questions are “what do pets do” and “how to find the lost pets in Stonewards”. Both deserve a straight answer, and the straight answer has two halves.
Confirmed by the studio:
- Pets are a collectible with dedicated missions. Hotfix 0.1.6 fixed “an issue where collectible missions could fail to progress correctly, affecting Pet and Lore Page collection” — which places pets in the same collection system as lore pages.
- Pets make noise in the world. The same patch “reduced the hearing distance of Pet sounds so they no longer carry from excessively far away.” Sound is how you find them, and before August 18 that sound travelled far enough to be useless as a direction cue.
- There is an active “Pets” thread on the Steam discussion hub, and the studio reads that hub.
Not confirmed by anyone:
- What an individual pet does for your run. No patch note, no store page line, no achievement description says. Stonewards shipped all 20 of its achievements with empty descriptions, so that usual back door is closed too.
This site will not fill that gap with invention. If you find a Stonewards page listing pet stats or per-pet bonuses, check whether it cites anything.
How to find them
The one mechanical hook the studio has given you is audio. Pets emit sound, and since 0.1.6 that sound is audible only within a sensible radius — which turns it from ambience into a locator. Slow down in the mines and listen.
That fits a pattern the community has noticed more broadly: Stonewards uses audio cues for hidden things. A widely-shared community video on the game’s unexplained mechanics lists “hidden chest-room audio” among them, and there is a forum request for an “accessibility option for treasure hum” — a hum that exists precisely because the game signals buried value through sound rather than through the UI.
If your pet collection is not counting
It may not be you. The collectible mission tracker was genuinely broken until August 18, 2026 (Hotfix 0.1.6). Two neighbouring fixes from the same period tell you how rough progression tracking was:
| Version | Fix |
|---|---|
| 0.1.5 | Some missions could be progressed or completed in the Hub, including headshot and player-death missions |
| 0.1.5 | The Toggler would not unlock immediately after completing its requirement, sometimes needing a restart |
| 0.1.6 | Collectible missions could fail to progress, affecting Pet and Lore Page collection |
If you were collecting before those dates, some of it may simply not have registered.
The Hunter’s Companion is not a pet
Worth separating, because searches conflate them. The Companion is the Hunter class’s combat animal — the bear players ask about on the forum (“Can We Not Heal The Bear?”). It has its own patch history: buffed in 0.1.4 and again in 0.1.7, healable at the Fireplace with the Fireplace upgrade and by the Healer since 0.1.7, with Poison and Fire damage that scale off your attack damage.
That is a class mechanic, documented in detail. Pets are a collectible, documented barely. See the class guide for the Companion.
